Dresses for the girls . . .

Several of the ladies at Sunrise UMC made and sent dresses for the girls who came to the clinic. Here is one of them getting her new dress.

Here we are just before heading to the clinic to start up.

Here is a quick picture or two of the line  before clinic start.

Today's agenda includes Gracie ' s kids in the morning and an orphanage visit in the afternoon.

Monday morning views from our hotel balcony

FYI -

I am posting this using my cell phone. That does not let me edit or add captions.  That's why the typo on an earlier post for Peter Matzner's name is still there and I can't tag these pictures with detailed captions.

Now for the captions.

This are routine sights from the balcony here.

"Missionary in the Morning" describes Jim Fetsch as he kicks back sips coffee and reads.

The guy filling his water bottle from a mud puddle was a new sight though. When I saw what he was doing, I wondered out loud how long it would be before an ox cart went through it this morning. Jim Blue observed that there probably had already been several.

I added a picture of a cell tower. I was looking to show the contrast with a modern cell tower, ramshackle construction and gorgeous mountain view.

We got in to Talanga

Our flight to Tegucigalpa was delayed by mechanical issues.

We eventually got going and are now in Talanga.

We had a quick lunch at Burger King and then rolled for Talanga.

We got in, checked into the hotel and then went to the church to set up.

Our stuff got in OK.

The tools and materials in storage are another story.

Here are some pictures of the church as it is being converted to a dental clinic.

Now for the issues

On the problems list:

In the morning I will get to the oil and details needed for doing oil changes and PM I on the compressor and generator.

In the mean time. Dr's Fetsch and Moore are answering the age old quesyion: How many dentists and missionary volunteers does it take to take apart and hopefully fix a sterilizer?

Wish us luck.

They are hitting the start button now.

Beth Blue and Sarah Hardin

Beth and Sarah are our last post for the ' meet the team series here'

Beth has been on several mission trips before with her husband Jim Blue. She has certification in and years of experience working with occupational therapy.

Sarah Hardin is Beth and Jims oldest daughter. She is a mom in her own right with children of her own ranging in ages from 2 to 11.
She is looking forward to "doing what mom says and doing what is needed".

When she said that I wanted to warn her about my first trip where I said similar. That trip I ended up translating, dental assisting and fixing compressors. And I was hooked on this stuff.

Look out Sarah, you may find yourself with an addiction to this work. It is rewarding.

Jim Blue - Pastor, X-ray Tech

Jim Blue is the lead pastor at Sunrise United Methodist Church. Jim has been doing these mission trips for years. His resume includes construction, dental and medical trips. On the dental trips he usually runs the X-ray station.

Jennifer 'Jenn' Smith

Jennifer is dental hygienist who will be doing cleaning and additional checkups.

She has 3 years experience and this is her first mission trip.

Jennifer does not admit to having a nickname...  I'm betting that will change by the end of the trip.

Hmm what will it be?
"The Cleaner... She really cleans up at this dental hygienist work?"

Or maybe ...

These trip are rewarding and bring out parts of you personality that you  would not expect.

Either way, we are welcoming her to the team and glad to have her.

Pete Mater

Here is Peter 'Pete' Matzner.

Pete has done so many of these trips that you don't what he will do. He could probably even handle the tooth extractions ... he will probably run the sterilizers and related gear again this year.

Patricia 'Trish' Natale

Ms Natale is going as a generalist on the team. I believe this is her 2nd trip.  She brings a variety of skills and experience to the team ranging from her time as one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children ( USMC) to her present work.

 Pardon the backhanded teasing  here.

For the readers who didn't grow up in English, the USMC
reference is a mild tease about her service in the US Marines who have a reputation for thinking of themselves as ' once a Marine Always a Marine' and also for being one of the roudiest services in the US military.

Paul Moore -Dentist, Eagle Scout, Rotarian

Paul Moore is one of the dentists on the team. Without him and Jim Fetsch we could not do this. He is a long time member of Rotary International an Eagle Scout and has a passion for helping people.

Jim Fetsch - Dentist, Do Gooder and Soccer Star

Jim Fetsch is one of the dentists going. He is a first class do Gooder who loves helping people and making a difference. With luck he will be able to show off his soccer skills in another Adults vs Kids soccer as in years past.
